Background

The arrival of Mourne Golf Club on the Irish Golfing scene is recorded in the Golfing Union of Ireland centenary book with half a line - "1946 Mourne, A 1946.". Expanded into a sentence, this reads "Mourne Golf Club was founded in 1946 and affiliated to Golfing Union of Ireland in 1946.".

Now in 2008 it is still alive and kicking with over 1000 members and it is forever growing. There is many people looking to make the club even bigger as the Moune Golf Club plays on the famous Royal County Down Golf Course which was recently ranked the best course in the world, excluding America, as Pebble Beach and Sawgrass topped the list and they are both in America.

Clubhouse and Facilities

With the opening of our new clubhouse in 2002, the nineteenth hole at Mourne boasts an impressive list of facilities.

We are very proud of our fifty-seater restaurant, where you can enjoy a snack or a full a-la-carte meal of the highest quality at a remarkably reasonable price. The caterer is chef Mel Murray.

In the bar, which provides excellent views over the course, you are assured of friendly and efficient service at the hands of the bar staff, Liz, Andrea and Wendy under the direction of the bar manageress Sally Adams.

The front office, reception, and shop, where bookings are taken and where all your golfing needs are catered for, is staffed by Lynda and Ken. It is advisable to ring before your visit to make sure of availability of whatever facilities you may require.
For catering telephone (028) 97565839; all other enquiries (028) 97562365.

Apart from the normal golf club facilities, Mourne has a very fine snooker room and fitness suite. Three indoor nets are available downstairs for those who like to get their swing into shape before doing battle. Outdoor practice areas are also at your disposal.
